Welcome to Arogyavaram Eye Hospital

The founder of the hospital was (late) Dr. Ben Gullison, an eminent Canadian doctor who left a prosperous career in his country and came to Andhra Pradesh in 1938 to a place like Sompeta which was like a village with no electricity or roads. He started the Arogyavaram hospital with himself and eight paramedical staff. Initially it had begun as a general hospital but considering the need of the people in the region, it was changed into a specialty eye hospital with one Ophthalmologist (eye specialist) and it became the first specialty eye hospital to be established in north costal AP in Sompeta Mandal.
